Men's Health MOTs
During February the Forum hosted a special health MOT day for men with learning disabilities, as part of a Wythenshawe-wide bid to encourage local men to get their bodywork checked. Led by South Manchester Healthy Living Network and supported by Manchester Mencap, Manchester Learning Disability Partnership and Manchester United Charities Foundation - the day aimed to give men with learning disabilities the chance to have a thorough cardio-vascular health check.
Twenty three men came along to the Forum MOT day to have their blood pressure, cholesterol, height, weight, body mass index and lifestyle assessed by nurses. The original plan was for assessments to take place on a special health bus parked on Forum Square, however, the bus broke down so rooms were hastily provided by the Forum within the centre so that the assessments could still be carried out.
There were health stalls in the concourse for extra advice and information; plus each man received a health goody bag, their MOT certificate and a chance to enter a prize draw. In the afternoon men had the opportunity to join the MUFC Health Trainer, Steve Hoy, at the Premier Men’s Health Group – and lots of them took up the opportunity. However the highlight of the day was a visit from United mascot, Fred the Red!
Many thanks to all who supported the day and to everyone who came along!! The Premier Health Group for men with learning disabilities, in partnership with Manchester Mencap, runs every Tuesday between 1.00 and 2.00pm, at the Forum.
The Men’s Health Bus visits Wythenshawe again during the week beginning 7th March. For more info please contact Jane McAllister on 217 3444 or at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
